It all started with Angelina Jolie and her humanitarian missions which eventually earned her the title of UN Ambassador. Several other celebrities followed suit, lending their popular names to various charities. The latest of which are Scarlett Johansson, Colin Firth, Coldplay, and Annie Lennox. These four were recently announced as part Oxfam’s (an anti-poverty coalition) Global Ambassador program.
According to Scarlett, her decision to join was greatly influenced by her recent trip to Sri Lanka and India with the coalition. “I want to be a part of the great work that Oxfam is doing, and am glad that by being an Ambassador I can continue to be involved with the organization,” said Scarlett in an Oxfam press release. “Once you’ve met amazing people like the Dalit girls I met on my trip you just can’t turn your back. I was shocked by a lot of what I saw, but seeing the fantastic work Oxfam was doing I also felt that there was hope.” Nice move Scarlett! This would effectively neutralize your reputation for being a “bad girl”, LOL!
